Pashley’s Pumpkin Patch

Pumpkin patch

Pashley’s Pumpkin Patch!

Through our BH-BL PEP Grant we have created garden boxes to grow vegetables.

This summer we decided to plant pumpkin seeds…and whoa-la!

Did you know…

Pumpkins are fruit.

Pumpkin flowers are edible.

Colonists sliced off pumpkin tips; removed seeds and filled the insides with milk, spices and honey. This was baked in hot ashes and is the origin of pumpkin pie.

Pumpkins are 90 percent water.

Eighty percent of the pumpkins supply in the United States is available in October.

Native Americans flattened strips of pumpkins, dried them and made mats.

The good: This food is low in Saturated Fat, and very low in Cholesterol and Sodium. It is also a good source of Vitamin E (Alpha Tocopherol), Thiamin, Niacin, Vitamin B6, Folate, Iron, Magnesium and Phosphorus, and a very good source of Dietary Fiber, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Riboflavin, Potassium, Copper and Manganese.

Do you like to eat foods made with pumpkin?

noun
  1. the recreational activity of hunting for and finding a hidden object by means of GPS coordinates posted on a website.

Geocaching is the real-world treasure hunt that’s happening right now, all around you. There are 2,478,914 active geocaches!

Check out the official Geocache website…https://www.geocaching.com/

Here is how we Geocache 🙂

**We have downloaded the App on my cell phone.  We locate local Geocaches, from our current location. (We LOVE to Geocache on vacation…Daytona Beach, Florida, and New Jersey beach)

We had a blast in the Saratoga State Park.  We found 5 different geocaches and received a “stamp” at each GPS location.

Sometimes, a small trinket is left for you 🙂   Just make sure to leave a small trinket for the next finder at that location.

We will Geocache in PE this Fall (at Pashley of course)

Have you ever Geocached before?  Have you heard of this activity?

National Girls’ and Women in Sport Day 2013

Welcome to Pashley Elementary….Sarah Kuhn

Sarah Kuhn wanted to sign up for ballet class to help get her into better shape.

Since the studio was closed, she went next door to Sweeney’s Gym and signed up for boxing lessons instead.

Since then, she’s turned pro, she feels inspired, and continues to do well in her professional fights.

We our honored to have Boxer Sarah Kuhn be our guest speaker in PE class!!

What message did you learn today from Sarah’s visit?

Past and Present Athletes

This is a GREAT story…

Meet Coach Belanger, Saratoga’s Modified Field Hockey Coachextraordinaire.

She was Mrs. Ferrie’s student, WAY BACK while I taught and coached at Shenendehowa!!

It is great to see her again, as she was always a great student, athlete… and now friend.

The best part of this story…she is now my daughter’s field hockey coach 🙂

How cool is that!!!! Lucky field hockey player (Grace), lucky parent (me).

Keep up the great work Coach Belanger!!

Do you ever run into past teachers, students, friends that made such a great impact on you?
